In the upcoming elections in the non-existent Kuibyshev region, businessman Andrei Obolensky, at the suggestion of the country's leading political strategist, becomes the spoiler candidate of the current governor Koretsky. The spoiler's task is to pull votes from Morozov's main competitor and withdraw from the election in favor of Koretsky. But the further the game goes, the more Obolensky gets into the taste. It is no longer clear who is playing against whom, and most importantly, what is at stake for everyone.

A young russian language and literature teacher , Anna Fedorova, goes to a yacht party with old friends. As the morning comes, Anna jumps into the sea, while the others are still sleeping. In a wet dress, barefoot, with bruises and abrasions all over her body, the woman goes to the police station and makes a rape allegation. She accuses her friends, influential people in the city, of the crime. The case causes enormous resonance, and the investigation sheds light on events from the past of all those involved in the case. It is not so much the alleged rapists who find themselves under the fire of public condemnation, but Anna herself.

1899, the Christmas-time St.Petersburg. Ice-covered rivers and canals of the capital seethe with festive activities. They are people from different worlds: Matvey, the son of a lamplighter, whose only treasure is his silver-plated skates; Alice is the daughter of a high-ranking official dreaming of science. Each of them has his own difficult life-story, but having accidentally met they rush forward together in pursuit of their dreams.
